The Weill Cornell Department of Population Health Sciences in New York City is seeking outstanding faculty candidates engaged in research related to public health practice that is applicable to pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. This is a senior position for an accomplished scholar with expertise in infectious disease epidemiology, public health, or related fields. The Department of Population Health Sciences (https://hpr.weill.cornell.edu/) is multi-disciplinary with substantial research strengths across a variety of areas, including epidemiology, health policy and economics, health data science and data analytics, health informatics, comparative effectiveness & outcomes research, healthcare delivery science, and biostatistics.
The successful candididate will be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and will serve as the Director of the Cornell Center for Pandemic Prevention and Response, which strengthens research, training, and service for addressing future acute health threats from infectious diseases, leveraging the University’s world-leading strengths across human, animal, and environmental health.The Director will be a visionary leader and will develop a program to advance analysis and research translation capabilities, design and evaluate policies and practices, and launch educational initiatives to strengthen preparedness and response to future pandemics. The position is located in New York City, and the candidate will work closely with the Center co-director located at Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, NY.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. or an MD with additional graduate training (e.g. M.P.H., MS, or fellowship) and documented experience. This is a full-time faculty position, and faculty rank and compensation are commensurate with professional experience and academic background. Candidates should have a record of significant research accomplishments and public health impact in the field, including developing and sustaining extramural funding.
Faculty appointments will be in the Department’s Division of Epidemiology, which is the academic home for a multidisciplinary group of PhD and/or MD population science investigators dedicated to careers building scientific evidence and cultivating a next-generation workforce conducting epidemiologic research. If appropriate, the candidate could have a clinical appointment in the Division of Infectious Diseases or other clinical divisions. Faculty in this Division leverage multiple opportunities for collaboration with clinical researchers at WCM, as well as partner institutions NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Cornell Tech, which is Cornell’s NYC-based engineering campus. Additional resources include the Englander Institute for Precision Medicine, the Cornell Center for Health Equity, Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center.
