The Department of Health Behavior, Policy, and Management at Old Dominion University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Social Behavioral Sciences / Health Behavior & Health Promotion to begin Fall 2026.
This is a 10-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment. The faculty member will hold primary teaching responsibility for the Master of Public Health (MPH) and Ph.D. in Health Services Research programs, with additional opportunities to teach and mentor students in the BSHS and BSPH programs. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Health Behavior, Policy and Management within the ODU-NSU Joint School of Public Health. The Department is a growing, diverse, and multidisciplinary environment committed to public health research, teaching, service, and practice. The faculty member in this role will: ? Teach graduate-level courses in social and behavioral sciences in public health (health behavior and health promotion) within the MPH and Ph.D. in Health Services Research programs, as well as undergraduate courses in the BSHS/BSPH programs as needed ? Develop and maintain an active program of scholarly public health research, including peer-reviewed publications and pursuit of external research funding ? Advise and mentor graduate students in the MPH and Ph.D. in Health Services Research programs, and participate in departmental, school, and university service and governance ? Contribute to the mission and programs of the ODU-NSU Joint School of Public Health through interdisciplinary collaboration across departments and engagement with professional and community partners

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Earned terminal doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, or DrPH) in social and behavioral sciences or health behavior and health promotion in public health, or a comparable/closely related discipline (e.g., social psychology, health communication), from a CEPH-accredited public health program, school, or institution 2. Demonstrated ability in graduate-level teaching in social-behavioral sciences (health behavior and health promotion) or a closely related public health area 3. Demonstrated scholarship/research in social-behavioral sciences and public health, with evidence of research independence and potential for (or record of) securing external research funding; and excellent oral and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications: ? Post-doctoral public health training or experience in social/behavioral sciences (health behavior and health promotion) from a CEPH-accredited public health program ? Established track record of public health research in socio-behavioral sciences, including peer-reviewed publications and extramural grant funding; experience advising and mentoring graduate students in public health research ? Experience teaching public health graduate-level courses in a variety of delivery formats, including asynchronous online instruction; experience with course development for MPH and/or PhD programs in public health
